Defen$ive Driving

Last week I wrote about how I saved nearly 400 dollars when I switched insurance companies. A portion of that saving came from a 10% defensive driving discount. If you aren’t familiar, you enroll in the 4 hour course, pass a final test at the end and are given a card. For three years you are given a 10% discount on your insurance cost. I had enrolled in this course back in 2000, but when it lapsed in 2003 I did not take it again until 2010. If I had to guess I would say I missed out on at least 500 dollar of savings during that seven year window. Perhaps more.

My reasons for not renewing were the same as everyone else’s. I didn’t want to give up a Saturday to head over to the local library and sit through a 4 hour course. It’s just one of those things that is so easy to put off. It’s always on the “To Do” list, but never near the top.

Well technology has solved that dilemma. Now it possible to take a defensive driving course in the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to change out of your pajamas. Sites like defensivedriving.com allow you to complete the defensive driving course at your own pace on your own time. It couldn’t easier. If I did it so can you.

So there you are, out of excuses.  A few mouse clicks and years of savings are yours. The course cost $49.95 to enroll but you would most likely make that back in the first year. I made it back in the first 6 months.

If you were like me and have been putting off taking that defensive driving course, please consider defensivedriving.com. If will make you a safer better driver and it will keep so of your money in your pocket.
