Would you like some kettle pizza? Without fully understanding the question I would be inclined to say “yes”. I love pizza, and kettle pizza sounds kinda interesting. Kettle pizza is actually an invention by a gentleman name Al Contarino. He created the “Kettle Pizza” as an accessory to the very popular and also American made, Weber grill.
You place this device on top of the grill and place the lid on top of it. In doing so you have turned your barbecue into a nice little pizza oven. What I find most interesting about this is that in a way you are returning to the way pizza was originally made.
When pizza first came to America, in New York specifically, many of this first pizzerias used brick ovens. Wood was used in these massive things to make a thin crisp delicious style of pizza. As time passed fire codes changed and you were no long allowed to build brick ovens in new pizzerias. Some of the older places were grandfathered in, but many of them have since closed.
The “Kettle Pizza” allows you to return to that style of pizza making. You can now have a miniature descendent to the brick oven pizza in your own backyard. It takes about 4 minutes to cook a pizza in this device. You can experiment with different recipes, try different kinds of wood, and develop your own style of pizza. I know a lot to guys and gals who can cook up a mean burger on the grill, I can’t think of any that can barbecue up a nice pizza.
