Back to School- 5 Computer Deals for Students

That time of year already, back to the books. Do they still use books in schools? I think they do, but I am not so sure. I do know that they use computers and I have been poking around the web trying to find good deals for my readers. I have put together a nice assortment of bargains that I hope will aid you in your back to school shopping.

  •  In the budget laptop category is the Dell Inspiron 15 (N5040) for $399.00. This is a basic entry level computer, it has an Intel I3 processor, 4 gigs of ram, a 500 gb hard drive and a built in web came. This is good for web-surfing, social networking, and basis word processing like paper writing and note taking, normal everyday student needs. It’s not good for gaming, computer programming, or graphic design. You may also want to extend the customer support term, right now you only get 90 days phone support and one year in home service.
  • Moving up a rung is the HP Pavilion DV6T- 7000 for $699.00 but I have found a coupon code for you NBV3228 that you can enter and know the price down to $629.00 with free shipping and no tax in many states. This laptop offers an Intel I5 processor, 8gigs of ram, a 750 gb hard drive and a built in webcam. I own a similar model and found it to be well made and reliable. Its good for most basic student needs.
  • Climbing another price point we have another HP, the HP Pavillion DV7T- 7000 for $724.00 with the same NBV3228 coupon code that I found. You also get free shipping and no sales tax in most states. This laptop also offers an Intel I5 processor, 8gigs of ram, a 750 gb hard drive and a built in webcam but on top of that it has a 17 inch screen and two years of support. This laptop should exceed most average students needs and for those with more demanding requirements you can add ram and select a more powerful graphics card for an additional cost.
  • In term of price reduction the award for highest goes to the Lenovo Ideapad Y580. This laptop’s initial retail price was just under $1600.00, but the current deals in place knock it down to $949.00 with free shipping. This computer comes with an I7 Intel processor, 8gig of ram, a 1 terabyte hard drive, a 2 gb video card, a webcam, and a one year warranty. This should meet the needs of even the most demanding students.
  • At the very top we have the HP Envy 17t-3000 3D for $1294.99 after entering the coupon code NBY8552. This laptop offers the an I7 Intel processor, 8 gigs of ram, a 1 terabyte hards drive, a one gb graphics card, a 17 inch screen, a webcam, a 3d blu ray drive, 2 years of norton anti-virus,  photoshop, and a two year warranty. If you like bells and whistles this has them all.

Some of these deals come with warranties and anti-virus, other do not. It is very important to protect your new computer so please keep this in mind. None of these deals come with “Microsoft Office”. I have tried a free opensource alternative called OpenOffice in the past. I liked it, but my fiance did not. Lastly, I remember in college several of my friends falling victim to laptop theft. A lot of student leave their dorm room doors open and thieves slip and and out before anyone evens know what they have done. I stongly advise buying a lock and security cable . It might end up being the best 15 dollars you ever spent.

Good luck to everyone in the up coming school year, please leave any questions or comments in the comments section.
