I love movies. Ever since my parents took me to the Westbury Drive-in at the age of 7 I was hooked. We saw Gremlins, Back to the Future, the Karate Kid, Rocky 4, if something interesting came out I wanted to see it. A few years later, when I was in college, I got a job as a projectionist in a movie theater. Free movies whenever I wanted!
Unfortunately the drive in closed and I had to leave my projectionist job after I graduated. Still, my love of movies hasn’t changed and with rising ticket prices I am always on the hunt for a bargain. When I went to see a movie last weekend with a friend of mine he told me about the “Regal Crown Club”. My curiosity was peeked and I checked it out.
“The Regal Crown Club” is a rewards program offered by Regal Cinemas, the largest theater chain in America. The enrollment is free and you earn points for every dollar spent at the box office (up to 20 per day) or concession stand. You present the card when you make yours purchase and the points are credited to your account.
Once you reach certain point milestones you are rewarded with free concession items and eventually a free movie ticket(at 150 points). The good thing about this program is that you don’t have to save up credits to get the higher rewards on the list. At 50 credits you are given a free popcorn and at 100 you are given a free soda, you don’t get knocked down to zero and start over. The card also entitles you to a free upsize at the concession stand, buy a small soda and get upgraded to a medium for free.
“The Regal Crown Club” also has special offers on certain days of the week. On Monday you can use your rewards card to buy $2 candy and on Tuesday they offer $2 popcorn. On Thursdays you earn an extra 5 credits with a paid admission. Little perks like these can really add up over time. These points never expire so you can build towards various rewards at your own pace.
One of my favorite features of the rewards program is that it’s not a credit card. I don’t have to worry about keeping track of another bill, there are no penalties or fees if I am late paying. I buy my tickets and I am rewarded points. Since I can pay by with whatever method I choose I can use a rewards credit card to earn cash back and use my Regal Crown Club card to earn credits on the purchase, win-win.
I just enrolled and I should receive my rewards card shortly. My friend, who told me about the program, has already earned over 800 points and received over a dozen rewards. He highly recommends it. I will write an update about this when I start using my card and earn my first reward.
If you live near a Regal Cinemas theater and visit that theater regularly you should probably consider enrolling in “The Regal Crown Club” and start building towards that free popcorn.
